Tucson Cookout

ranchranch3ranch2hayride

Did you know it’s faster to fly to Paris from Ontario than it is to fly to Tucson? After 14 hours of travel, I arrived in Tucson for a conference.

We may have some pretty wicked humid days up in the North, but rarely have I felt straight on heat from the sun like that before. Aren't conferences in the desert in July wonderful?

One of the events in the conference was a cookout on a nearby ranch. I felt quite lucky to have such an authentic experience during travels.

The cookout was good. But the experience of being at a ranch in the middle of the desert...

...watching the sun set…

…made for an amazing experience.

Aside from conferencing, I also visited La Indita. It’s my first time ordering a pitcher of sangria (to be shared by 3) and receiving the pitcher AND glasses both full. I really had no idea what to order, so I went with flautas. I don’t tend to eat a lot of food like this. It was tasty, and pretty good value for money, but kind of heavy (depending on your personal tastes). The owner was very pleasant too.

I also wanted to mention that I decided to publish my last post about France on my other blog. It doesn’t have any food in it – but lots of great pictures. If you’re interested in reading about “My Best Day in France”, click here.

  5. Cool - I've attended a couple of conferences in Tuscon too - my favourite bit was travelling into the desert and going horse riding! I love Mexian food - but I know what you mean about the heaviness...

  7. Yeah that plate looks rediculous filling, but still very tasty. That would be exactly what I crave it was a Thursday night at 3am back in undergrad :)

Glad you liked your trip. I've never been out west, and it looks like a TOTAL different world out there. The scenery is absolutely beautiful.

Oh and tell Giz... drink a lot of water if you have problems with protein digestion. Enzymes and cultures in yogurt might help too.

  8. I've never actually been to Tucson but I hear it's not quite as hot as the rest of AZ, true? The cookout looks like it was such a fun experience. Everyone should get to do stuff like that dontcha think?

  14. Wow Paris, Tucson, man I want to go travelw ith you. I use to live in Phoenix. My Aunt and cousin live at the base of Mt. Lemon. So often I want to return. I love the green but the desert is addicting. I think.

By the way, the roundup is awesome.
