Chino-Latino Chicken Wings

R and I have a routine. From October to March, we curl (a relatively popular sport in Canada) on Friday evenings. Sometimes it interferes in a social life. But for the most part it's good because with sunset coming so early, it's tempting to be antisocial and stay in after a week of work. We've curled for about 7 years now. What's curling, you ask? Check out this post where I give a pretty detailed explanation, along with pictures. Oh - and just ignore the part where I talk about being really hung over.

Almost every Friday, one of my curling team members orders hot wings. I sit, watching him and drool over his wings. But, I know that the best wings are homemade, so I refuse to order them myself. Instead, R and I usually end up defrosting these awesomely awesome Buffalo wings.

I decided to shake things up and expand my chicken wing horizons. So, I tried Jaden's Steamy Kitchen's Chino-Latino Wings

Chino-Latino Wings

prep time: 3 minutes; cook time 20 minutes

2 lbs chicken wings

sesame seeds

Marinade ingredients

2 Chipotle peppers + 1 tablespoon Adobo sauce (each can should have about 10 peppers inside…start with 2)

1/4 cup Hoisin sauce

1/4 cup water

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1/2 lime, squeezed

1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger (use microplane grater)

Combine marinade ingredients in blender or food processor. Puree until thickened. Taste. If you want spicier, add another chili and another tablespoon of adobo. Press down on wings to flatten as much a possible. Marinate chicken wings for at least 1 hour.

Grill on BBQ Grill - 8-10 minutes each side. Note that Jaden likes to grill her wings whole. If you separate the wing joints, shave off a minute of cooking time as there will be more surface contact with grill grates.

Bake at 425F for 30- 35 minutes or until done (cook time depends on size of your wings. I had big mama sized wings) Check for doneness by cutting into the thick part of the drumette.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds (not depicted below) and serve.

Overall, the wings were pretty good. If I make them again, I'll probably add more peppers and bake them in the oven. I don't trust my bbqing skills.

I followed some online advice and froze the remainder of my chipotle peppers in a ziplock bag. Apparently, it works well because you can just break off a piece when desired. But, I now have a bag full of chipotle peppers - so if anyone has any recommendations for chipotle recipes, please send them my way.

These look great! I can see why you would avoid ordering wings in a restaurant when you can so easily make these at home.

At first I read that you like to curl up on Friday Curling actually looks like it could be a lot of fun. Ok, the sauce for those wings sounds fantastic! I'm going to save it for when I have guests over the holidays

I love chicken wings. I just listed them as a desert island food. Your Chino Latino ones look inspired and delicious. Left over chipotles? I would throw a couple in a pot of chilli.

And here I thought you meant curling up on the couch. Quite the opposite! You go!

I love chicken wings with all different kinds of sauces. They have gotten to be so expensive here because they are so popular. We use to go to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo when I was in my early twenties. We'd sit and drink and eat wings. THey had great r and b there too.

I don't feel too bad I'm not the only one who thought you were curling up on the couch! This wing recipe is going to come in pretty darn handy when the holidays come.

Ooh, those look yummy. I love spicy chicken wings, and you're right to make them yourself because they're so much better. (I have to confess, I often eat the restaurant ones too...)

Delicious wings!! I first saw curling when I lived in the UK, and was very curious about it. I think because it is an ice-based sport, it will remain forever foreign here.

oh yeah--bump up the peppers for sure! chipotle peppers seem to find their way into just about every entree i make. :)

Great flavors...and do you know I use that SAME brand of chipotle peppers. They're great.

I chop them and mix them with sour cream for my fish tacos and I mix them with ranch dressing for dipping hot this stuff!

Every once in a while I come across a recipe that requires chipotles in adobo. I buy a can and then the remainder becomes an alien in the back recesses of my fridge. Great suggestion to freeze it...why I never thought of it I will never know:D
