PB&J Smoothie
I hadn't noticed The Great Peanut Butter Exhibition on it's first roundup - dummy me - how could that have happened. Hosted by Foodaphillia and The Peanut Butter Boy , the first round for PB cookies is already in the news stands - you have to visit these blogs. If you or anybody you even remotely know even so much as likes the colour of peanut butter, you must check them both out. What fun.
This time, I wasn't going to be left in the dust since we're now talking peanut butter as breakfast food and, well... say no more.
While on extended stay in the U.S., I got completely hooked on PB&J Smoothies from Planet Smoothie . My Planet Smoothie obsession became a morning ritual - as soon as the local shop opened, there I was looking for a PB&J breakfast smoothie. When I came home to Canada, the only way I'd replicate this delightful treat was by making it myself. Fast forward 2 years and I'm still in love with this smoothie. Although mine is not exactly like the one from Planet Smoothie - they add energy boosters and other good secret ingredients, this one is pretty darned close.
The beauty of this meal in a glass is that all you need is a trusty....
PB&J Smoothie
1 Banana
1/2 cup strawberries
1 heaping tablespoon smooth peanut butter
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract (optional)
ice cubes
Everything goes into the blender - ice last and bing bang boom...you have the best darned smoothie around and it's thick like a milkshake and oooohhhh so satisfying. Life can only be good after a morning start like this.
Warning: Highly Addictive!!!
Don't come back and tell me I didn't warn you :)

Good one for the kiddo for breakfast or afternoon snackeroo. We get tired of the same old thing. Do you think PB boy is trying to rub his PB addiction off on everyone else? :)
I consider myself warned that these are highly addictive Giz:D
I love fruits juices but Peanut butter is such an American and Canadian? product! We don't have it over here... I think that the "thing" is the PB... isn't it?
Recipegirl - I think PB Boy is just reflecting an already existing addiction
Val - I feel better now
Nuria - No PB (peanut butter) in Spain?? You so need to get a trial jar
Haha, it's contagious! I very well may be the leader of the peanut butter revolution - although I'm not sure what our goal is, except worldwide peanut butter addiction of course! This smoothie sounds great though, I need to try it for breakfast soon.
I studied abroad in Spain and while peanut butter wasn't as available as it is in the US, I usually found it and most grocery stores and in some convenience shops. Maybe it's because I was based in Madrid and it's easier to find there? There was usually only one brand and it was a tad expensive, but that didn't deter me!
Oh yummy. Me & the kids will adore this...forget the sandwhich!
oh nooooo. nononono. I think I've said before, I am not a sweets person in the least, but once in a while something beckons me. and this is one of those times. it's only because I love pb. I never thought of a smoothie like this though. brilliant.
Ooooh, that looks so yummy! Thanks for entering PBE #2, your recipe certainly sounds and looks like a winner.
I really need to get a blender to make me some smoothies this summer.
PB&J Smoothies sound so good! I will have to try one.
i don't think there's anything pb&j that i wouldn't eat, nay, devour. cookies, sammiches, french toast, what have you. now i can add smoothie to that list--i love it!
love love love these. smoothie king makes them here and my 27 yr old daughter and her 5 year old LOVE them too...
they're awesome. i add somw agave to sweeten it up a touch...
yum
Yum! So healthy too! I make my own version of this very often with frozen berries instead of ice and hazelnut or almond butter instead of PB (can't do peanuts).
I'm so trying this tonight or tomorrow...I love pb and j!!!
I just had this for breakfast! It was so good!! I used frozen fruit, no ice, and half a cup of almond breeze plus a little water. It was so creamy and delish! :)
I've made this twice now, so I figure its time to post a thank you. I was hooked on the Planet Smoothie drink as well. I'm sure this is a healthier option. Thanks!
